As kids we often got this essay topic in school - 'The Day When EVERYTHING Went Wrong!' When I wrote about getting drenched on the way to school, losing my favourite pencil box and landing up with a bruise while running around as events of my WRONG day, little did I know that as a grown up there is so much more to it that it can drive you crazy. This brings me to describe one such ATYPICAL and downright BIZZARE day!
Imagine...
You wake up one fine morning on a bright sunny day with a feel-good factor about the day ahead and BAM!!!...it all backfires...and how! Wake up late and drowsy, rush to get ready for work and pop go the buttons of your favourite shirt in all the haste! Reaching office late and perplexed and facing an angry manager, a barrage of phone calls, professional tiffs with colleagues and work pressure which resembles a deadly gas chamber. Hoping it will fizz out by the end of working day. But obviously it does not.
You reach home and there is frenzy everywhere. An activity which has fetched thousands of phone calls is driving the inhabitants crazy. The phone keeps ringing like a Government office complaints department and the conversations are like traditional stock market trading Ring. In the midst of all this disarray, you switch on your dear PC (dabba) for some important mails that need to be sent out and it refuses to oblige. The technician makes matters worse by opening up the CPU, spreading all the nuts and bolts, conducting a post-morterm on the poor little thing and BAM!! goes the mother board. And almost immediately our dedicated lanline follows suit.Thats a happy state of events!
Admist flying tempers and wicked conversations, the plumbing system of the house decides to give away, as if it was just waiting for an opportune moment and had suddenly found it! And isnt it the most happiest time then to have guests come over? Sure it is! People who had shown their faces after 365 days for casual socialising.WOW.Such an awesome sense of timing!
A precious newly purchased item had chosen today as its LAST DAY, much to our dismay. What was it boiling into? A LOSS day? I was yet to see...
After a good meal and some light hearted conversation, you decide to call it a day with the hope in mind that all is not lost and tomorrow is a new day. But is it really?
Wake up the next morning (probably 24 hours of the wRonG dAY are not yet over) and get to know disheartening news about your car being stolen. The sense of loss for something your family so dearly owned and used, the memories attached to the tiny vehicle that was a part of all good times of the family of four has suddenly bid a forceful goodbye. It really can scare the daylights out of a person. You wonder if you woke up on the wrong side of the bed twice. Your world is zooming around you, you lose sense to think or work clearly and that one daunting question is blaring in front of you. WHY ME?WHY US? And you get no answer. You can try blaming atleast 10 different people and systems who were directly or indirectly responsible for this or you can attribute it to karma. All said and done, the bottom line still remains - its gone.
A couple of insights that did come out of this day were - it suddenly works as a catalyst for the kids of the house to grow up. It is not a calamity but a chaos, a crisis. And it is important to be clear headed and calm in the midst of it. When the parents get worked up, the children take the baton from them swiftly and smartly and become the pillars of support and inspiration. The situation does not change, its the same crisis but there is a positive reinforcement of hope, courage and ideas that brings comfort. Also it reaffirms the faith in Almighty. It just comes to make us realise that however pompous or egoistic or laid back we may become, HE makes us realise that we are just a speck of dust and ultimately things are under his control. I would like to think of this as HIS way of telling us to never forget him even when all is smooth coz you never know when the ride would get bumpy! A day without faith and prayers is like a clock whose pendulum has gone missing!
After all the hysteria following the incident i PEACEFULLY sat in an auto to go to work -again an hour late - and was praying to God to give me fewer such unusual and wrong days. And the auto music system plays an apt Marathi song - 'Aga pori sambhal dariyala toofan ayela bhari...' (Take care girl, there is a stormy sea ahead...') ~
